Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

NICE Guideline 63 (Diabetes in Pregnancy) states that: Women who were diagnosed with gestational diabetes should be offered lifestyle advice (including weight control, diet and exercise) and offered a fasting plasma glucose measurement (but not an OGTT) at the 6-week postnatal check and annually thereafter.

A study published in the BJGP (October 2011) showed that only 39% of UK GPs followed their patients up annually. I was fairly sure that we did not do this so wanted to assess how well this happened in the surgery prior to starting systems to offer this service.
