SOAR Deployment Highlights: 2018 - June 8th

Disable Autosave function.

In the last deployment we implemented a site-wide autosave function for all users. Since then we have had a few reported issues with the speed of SOAR.

Following extensive user feedback and testing, we have determined that this performance issue is related to the use of Microsoft's web browser, Internet Explorer.

(During our testing, IE consumed about 6, 7 times more of the computer's memory and processing power compared to other browsers [3% vs 20%+]; not just on SOAR but across most websites.)

Everyone who reported the issue was able to get round it by either using a different web browser, or their own device at home.

We appreciate that it is not always possible to change or upgrade the web browser you use in hospital offices or GP practice computers. So, to remedy this:

  1. We have extended the autosave to trigger every 60 seconds (instead of 10); and
  2. We have created a function where users can disable the autosave for themselves.

This should bring the performance of SOAR back to what it was before - BUT please be advised, you HAVE to click Save at the end of each page/form completion to avoid losing your work.

A message about the status of the Autosave will appear in the header when you login to SOAR.

To switch off the autosave for your account:

  • Click on the autosave status on the header
  • This will take you to your profile setting
  • Click and uncheck the tickbox on screen
  • Finish by clicking on the Save button

Please use this function IF you are experiencing speed/performance issues on SOAR.

If the speed issue persists, please contact the helpdesk for further assistance - SOAR@nes.scot.nhs.uk
