To support the development of the appraiser workforce in Scotland, the 2025/26 annual Scottish Medical Appraisers conference has been scheduled to take place on Wednesday 3rd September 2025.
You can register your attendance via the below link:
The conference will be recorded and published on our website afterwards and you don't need to register to access this if you are not going to attend.
On the day, if you are unable to attend any parts of the day, please leave the meeting and return later (via same link) when you are free; otherwise it will cause significant disruptions to fellow appraisers when organising breakout groups.

Journey of a Form 4 Many appraisers have told us they don’t know what happens to the Form 4s they draft once the appraisal has been signed off. Who looks at them? How does it inform the ROs’ revalidation decision making? What do they look for in the Form 4s? For this session, we have invited guests from the GMC and AoMRC to share with us what is expected of a Form 4; and we have also invited a few ROs to share with us what they look for in a Form 4, their processes for revalidating colleagues and the role appraisers play. We will round up the session by opening it up for Q&A afterwards. If you have something specific you wish to ask the panel, you can submit your questions ahead of time via the link in the registration form provided. Speakers:

International Medical Graduates WINS IMG doctors face unique challenges which may include additional learning needs. Support has shown to improve training outcomes if the support is offered early on. WINS, which stands for "Welcoming International Medical Graduates New to Scotland", is a support and induction programme launched in 2024 by the Scotland Deanery to help IMGs transition smoothly into the UK medical system, particularly in Scotland. WINS is delivered by a large group of experienced educators led by Professor Nitin Gambhir, our Lead Dean Director, who will share more with us in this session and how it helps IMGs with their medical appraisals. Appraiser Agility Medical Appraisal is designed to be a supportive and formative process to recognise colleagues’ achievements and help reflect on their learning in a challenging but safe environment. Challenges come in different forms and directions, and it’s not always about the appraisee. For example, what role does neurodiversity play in appraisal? Why might they be presented the way they do? Why they are not engaging, is it the appraisee or is it appraiser? Appraisers need to be flexible and this session explores the mental agility of an appraiser. Speaker:
